September 28, 2015 – “I’m so grateful for Elder Hobbs”

The following is an excerpt from Elder Hobbs’ companion, Elder Combrink’s letter home:

“…I’m so grateful for Elder Hobbs and his work ethic and excitement to be a missionary! Many times when we see someone outside he says, “Let’s go talk to that guy!” but then when we ride up, Elder Hobbs looks at me to start the conversation. He makes me laugh sometimes. Recently he’s been very bold at the end of contacts when people reject us: challenging them to stop smoking; asking them why they’re scared to pray; inviting them to church to see for themselves; etc. He’s so great! …”

~We are so grateful for Elder Combrink and the amazing companion he has been to Elder Hobbs.  He has be a great trainer and an amazing companion, to begin a mission with. ~

September 28, 2015 – The Family Is Ordained of God

Well more rain this week! Whenever it rains it makes me happier. We were sitting in the car after all our plans fell through and we saw the bad weather coming in and we thought let’s go biking!  Something about biking in the rain makes everything better! We made a goal this week to contact 100 people and we succeeded.  We contacted exactly 100 people.  We also tried to commit people that don’t let us talk to them to quit smoking and we had one guy tell us that wasn’t going to happen and that he had a hole in his lung, so it wouldn’t make a difference if he stopped or not.  Some people I wonder about.

So with everything going on in the world I just want to share my position on something, The Family is ordained of God and is the most important unit of society. The Family a Proclamation to the world was definitely inspired.  When they read it in General Conference 20 years ago, the world was not the same condition it is now and The Family Proclamation to the world definitely was for our day. We have had so many people out here question us on that. So I wanted everyone to know my position on that. I agree with anything the Prophet or Apostles say. I support them with everything, because they are men called of God and I sustain them as Prophets, Seers and Revelators.  I know my Savior lives and I will always serve him! In the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

September 21, 2015 – “Our Father speaks very high of you…”

The following is an excerpt from Elder Hobbs’ companion, Elder Combrink’s letter home:
Story Time:
We were biking through Jennings and saw a lady pulling weeds in her front yard. So we stopped and offered service but she wouldn’t let us. So we started talking about the Church when she stopped us and said, “I’m Catholic,” like 90% of people around here do. But then unlike anyone else I’ve met on my mission she said, “Our Father speaks very highly of you guys. He says more Christians should be like you. Not a lot of us are willing to do what you do.” My jaw dropped. Elder Hobbs’ did too. After regaining control of my lower face I asked, “Where do you go to church so we can thank your Father?” She told us, as well as the name of her Father. I’m so excited to get to meet him and thank him for being a good man. I love the people down here! The lady also invited us back to share a message.
Being a missionary is the best.

September 21, 2015 – The importance of a living prophet.

Wow this week is gone in a blink of an eye! It’s all a blur so, I don’t remember much! Well the new IOS for apple messed with our iPads. The new IOS and the Church’s software on it didn’t get along and my iPad is stuck in a loop! So I’m out of an iPad for a week while it gets wiped and I [can’t] wait to get it back! So much fun! So we are trying to remember all of the addresses of the people we had and a lot of other stuff!

Through something I heard this week, I felt inspired to challenge everyone who ever reads this email to do something. I want to invite everyone to share with their parents, or kids, or siblings, or someone close in your life your gratitude for that person. And I challenge you to do that within a weeks’ time! And not just over text! In person, or a hand written letter! A lot of the time we take those close to us for granted and we never tell them thank you, and even if we do it can never be said enough!

This week I learned the importance of having a living prophet on the earth today. We met 2 people whose beliefs are completely out there because they let every wind of “Doctrine” change what they believe. One man we met believes the bible is about the people in Africa and the Lion King story is about Christ. It definitely shows the importance of a prophet to interpret what the scriptures mean and for prayer, to get an answer for ourselves.

This morning I read, 3 Nephi 17 . It’s such an amazing chapter! Christ loves us all so much and he brought all the children and the sick [to Him] and healed them all. I challenge every one to read 3 Nephi 11-17 this week. The Chapters are about when Christ came to the Americas and ministered to the people here.

Well I want you all you know that I have a testimony that Christ Lives! I KNOW that there is a Living prophet on the earth today, and his name is Thomas S. Monson. I know the Book of Mormon is true. And I know that if you pray about it, you can know that these things are true too! In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
